How splatter vinyl is made
Every record pressed starts with a ‘puck’, a small piece of PVC (vinyl) about the size and shape of an ice hockey puck. For splatter vinyl the puck is formed from the base color then small ‘beads’ of contrasting coloured PVC are added to the puck. As the record press heats and squeezes the puck the PVC is forced outwards from the centre creating the distinctive splatter effect.
