One of the great features of vinyl is the large canvas available upon which designers and custom packaging experts can let their imagination run riot. Hot Foiling or foil blocking, as it's also known, gives a highly reflective metalic finish to the print surface. Use foil to pick out fine detail or combine with embossing or debossing to add depth to a design. Although most frequently seen in gold or silver hot foils are available in a range of colours and even black!

Die Cutting

Die cutting is the process used for cutting out sections of card packaging. These can be simple shapes, such as circular holes or even lettering. Die cut a slipcase to reveal the digibook inside or a record sleeve to reveal inner sleeve artwork.

Custom Packaging FAQ

Absolutely. You can add Pantone colours in addition to the CMYK full colour printing or just use a couple of Pantone colours instead and combine pantone colours for startling duotone effects. Solid pantone colours can really stand out  and create a convincing retro feel.

Hot Foiling, also know as Foil Blocking is the application of metallic foil to paper or card with a heated die. The die is a metal plate engraved with a design which is stamped onto the foil, so it adheres to the print surface. The dies are heated before they are stamped which seals the foil to the print surface and leaves the desired shape debossed.

Spot UV gloss varnish is a print technique where a thin layer of gloss varnish is applied to specific areas on the card or paper print surface and is then dried under UV light. Spot matt varnish can be applied in the same way.

Perfect bound is a technique for binding soft cover books using glues to hold the pages to the spine. The spine itself is part of a single printed piece consisting of the front cover, spine and back cover that wrap around the whole book. The pages are glued to the narrow section in the centre that forms the spine.
