DVD Authoring

DVD authoring is the process by which your video and other elements are combined to create the DLT (Digital Linear Tape) or DVD-R master that we require for replication. The process will involve the following.

Video encoding
Design and devloping of menus (generally from artwork supplied by you).
Adding chapters to aid navigation.
Compiling any other elements you might need such as subtitles.

The process of combining your video and other materials and creating a menu is known as DVD authoring. We can do this for you. To find out more and get a price contact us.

The DVD manufacturing process begins with glassmastering, from which stampers are made. The stampers are then used to replicate DVDs in an injection moulding process. After this, hot polycarbonate is forced under high pressure into a circular mould containing the stamper and then cooled, so the polycarbonate takes on the mirror image of the mould.

A thin metal reflective layer is then added to one side of the disc. This reflective layer allows the laser to read the digital data that is created by the pits. Finally, a lacquer coating is added to protect the disc. This process makes about 100 DVDs per hour.

Following the replication process, the DVDs transition to a printing machine. A silk screen or litho onbody printing is applied using the label artwork with your catalogue number. Then, the printed discs proceed to the packing area, where they undergo either machine or hand packing.

DVD duplication involves copying blank DVDs for low quantity production. For quantities below 500, Breed Media provides a cost effective DVD duplication service, offering a high quality alternative for small runs with swift turnaround times.
