CD and DVD Manufacturing FAQ

CD Manufacturing FAQ

How shall I supply my master?

• CD Replication and CD Duplication:

To process your audio for CD replication or CD duplication we'll need you to supply us with a Red Book Standard master, which can come in DDP/DDPi format via upload, or as either Red Book or DDP on CD. Note that DDP/DDPi files must include the MD5 Checksum. Essentially you should supply a master which is the finished article and behaves exactly as you want the finished discs to, with track markers and metadata inserted as required.

Breed also has a pre-mastering department that can optimise your audio pre-masters to a commercial level, add track markers and encode metadata if required. Contact us for more information.

16 or 24-bit WAV files can also be supplied and converted to Red Book Standard audio if required; note that WAV files are data rather than audio format, and if not re-formatted will not play on standalone CD players. WAV files will also not retain metadata, so if required this will need to be encoded during the re-formatting process. Breed can re-format and re-encode WAV masters if required for a small fee.

For CD Rom replication or duplication please supply your master as a working copy on disc.

• You can supply pre-masters in two ways:

BreedPort (recommended): You can upload your DDP or WAV files direct to your own personal FTP space. Please contact to retrieve your details.

CD: You can supply a physical working copy of your master on CDR or retail-ready CD (Multitrack pre-masters should be supplied disc-at-once as opposed to track-at-once).

The total running time for audio CDs should not exceed 79:30 minutes/seconds, or 700mb total for CD Rom.

Please note: If your audio master contains cover versions of third-party owned recordings you may require an MCPS licence to manufacture; more info on licensing content for manufacture can be found here.

• DVD/Blu-Ray Replication and DVD Duplication:

For DVD/Blu-Ray orders you will need to supply your fully authored master as a working copy on disc or DLT.

How should I supply my artwork?

Please contact us to request the template you need. Once you have the template, please supply the artwork as PDF.

The basic requirements for CD & DVD manufacturing designs are:

• All files to be supplied as CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) or spot (Pantone) colours depending on your quote, at a resolution no lower than 300dpi.

• Onbodies (disc face): Please refer to the template supplied for exact measurements (templates provided on request). Please ensure no image or text falls outside the printable area, and all keylines are removed from the centre hole and outer circumference.

• Paperparts: 3mm of bleed is required around outside of all paperparts and no text within 3mm of cutlines or folds on paperparts. All files to be CMYK for paperparts unless Pantones have been agreed, and all files must have all keylines removed.

• 8+ page booklets should be supplied as printers' pairs (eg. 1 & 8, 2 & 7, 3 & 6).

All files must be supplied on our templates, with all transparencies flattened. Please supply with text layers unflattened, with all fonts embedded or converted to curves.

If you cannot output to PDF, we can convert other file formats (native files, .jpg, .tif etc) to PDF. Please note (reasonable) charges may apply if native files are supplied and remedial works are required.

• You can supply artwork in the following ways:

BreedPort (recommended): You can upload your files direct to your own personal FTP space. Please contact to retrieve your details.

Email: Your files can be emailed, up to 10mb. If above this size please send via a 3rd party FTP site such as WeTransfer, Hightail etc.

Disc: You can supply a physical CDR or DVDR.

Your artwork will be processed to proofs usually within 24-48 hours of order placement, assuming files are to specification.

Breed also has a highly skilled in-house graphics department to finalise your files, or design from scratch if needed. We can also generate barcodes and insert to your artwork: an essential if your product is destined for retail distribution. Contact us for more info.

Please visit our Ordering CD or Ordering DVD page if you are now ready to proceed with your order. We accept all major credit & debit cards, BACS and PayPal.
